Newspaper Accounts of Eli's Murder

The most detailed account found was written by Chaplain John Lawrence of Eli's regiment.  He wrote in response to an earlier brief, erroneous account.  The fact that Eli was an unarmed non-combatant killed by civilian guerillas is why it was considered murder, even though in wartime.
