Eli's Wives and Children

Franey
Holsten
(1824-1857)
|
|
Eli married first Franey Holsten on 24 July 1845 in Tippecanoe County, Indiana.
Franey,
quite likely the daughter of Nicholas Holsten, was born 25 February 1824,
also in Ohio. If she is the daughter of Nicholas Holsten, then her
father and mother were from Germany/Holland and Kentucky, respectively.
On 21 April 1857, Franey died at the young age of only 33. She is buried
in Makemson Cemetery in Oakwood Township, several miles south of where
they lived and a few miles north of the village of Oakwood.
They had three children:

Artimesia Holsten
(1835-1920) |
Soon after Franey's death, Eli married Artimesia Holsten on 26 July 1857 in Vermilion County, Illinois.
Artimesia was born 15 September 1835 in Covington, Fountain
County, Indiana. She was the youngest child of Nicholas Holsten. She was
of at least one‑half Dutch-German descent, since her father was born in
Holland/Germany and her mother in Kentucky. Artimesia died on 8 February
1920, at the age of 84. Her death was the result of chronic
nephritis (a kidney disease), from which she had suffered for a year.
After funeral services at the
home of her son Charles, she was buried with her second husband, William Randall, in Oakwood
Cemetery. (While I firmly believe from fragments of information that Franey and Artimesia are
half-sisters, I do not have conclusive proof.)
She also had three
children by Eli:
